Job DescriptionAs part of the Finance and Administration team, the Financial Controller leads end-to-end budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis processes, ensuring accurate reporting and variance monitoring across departments and projects. The support strategic decision-making through management reporting, business case preparation, and financial performance improvement initiatives. The role also includes financial coordination for major EU-funded projects, including compliance, reporting, and audits.Roles & ResponsibilitiesFinancial Controlling - 70% * Coordinate the budgeting and forecasting process end-to-end with project managers and department heads.
  • In charge of monitoring actual revenues, expenses, and KPI's against budget, in coordination with the various project managers, department heads and financial coordinators, for analysing and explaining the variances. Pro-active detection of issues and proposal of corrective actions.
  • Coordinate the quarterly management reporting process, supporting actual revenues & expenses to ensure completeness and providing input on accruals, provisions, etc to the GL accountant, together with the Director of Finance and Administration.
  • Support the production of management reporting for the Leadership Team, the Board of Directors and the Finance & Risk committee; as agreed with Director of Finance and Administration.
  • Analyse the net financial contribution by project; in collaboration with the project managers propose actions to improve financial performance by project and overall.
  • Support or lead projects to improve reporting / forecasting quality and process efficiency.
  • Coach Impact Europe staff on financial concepts and processes.
  • Preparation of business cases and ad hoc financial analysis to support the Director of Finance and Administration as required;
  • Act as financial coordinator for non-project-related overhead costs, in coordination with Director of Finance and Administration.
  • Administrator/super-user of the reporting tool; lead improvement and development phase of the reporting tool.
  • Initiate, co-design, and maintain internal processes and procedures in the area of procurement/billing
Financial Coordinator EU Project – 30%Act as financial coordinator for one EU project (DG Empl). This includes budgeting and follow-up of actuals against budget and forecasting, as well as cost controlling in this area; * Provide financial reports for internal use (accrual accounting, forecast, cash flow schedules)
  • Provide financial reports to the European Commission, deal with desk checks, project audit.
  • Organize and perform project expenditure control with external auditors.
  • Providing ad hoc support for tender application preparation and submission (public and private funders).
Skills & Qualities
  • Excellent organisational skills, detail oriented, consistent, quick, and responsive learner.
  • Proven experience in financial controlling and analysis, with a strong understanding of Belgian accounting practices.
  • Experience in implementing EU funded projects would be an asset.
  • Ability and experience in planning activities, building schedules and timely follow up on their implementation.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of English both written and oral
  • Comfortable with prioritising several competing tasks and responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
  • Interest for impact investing, social venture financing or social entrepreneurship and policy related will be perceived as advantage.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in accounting, finance, economics or related field will be an asset.
  • Min. 5 years related work experience.
  • Proficient with MS Office Excel, and other online tools like Dropbox, Google drive, and time registry systems.
  • Experience with EMAsphere would be considered an asset.
