Our client Belgium's R&D group in Ghent is developing advanced silicon photonics technology. This role focuses on designing, modelling, and validating photonic components and circuits that form the core of our client's future telecom, AI, and sensing products.Main Responsibilities for the Principal Engineer - Photonics Device Design :Design and model photonic components and PICs.Lead R&D projects from concept to product launch.Validate designs via testing and statistical analysis.Guide the definition of PIC-based system architectures for novel applications (e.g., new materials for high-baud-rate transceivers, optical DSP, 6G photonics, RF/mmWave photonics, photonics for AI, 3D/4D image sensing, photonic neural network)Define system architectures for advanced applications.Work with local and global teams on integration and production.Integrated optics & silicon photonics - RF line design & simulationPhotonic component modelling and validationKey Requirements for the Principal Engineer - Photonics Device Design :PhD in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field.5+ years in silicon photonics or related industry.Experience with PIC design, modelling, and layout tools.Proven track record in product development and stakeholder engagement.Hands-on experience with photonics software and Python.Our client is investing heavily in silicon photonics to power future global communications and computing systems.
