With its 11 faculties and more than 80 departments offering state-of-the-art study programmes grounded in research in a wide range of academic fields, Ghent University is a logical choice for its staff and students.YOUR TASKS- You will participate in the EU-funded 3SI-CONTROL project (EDCTP3 JU) in which the aim is to determine the safety, effectiveness and implementation strategies of an integrated anthelminthic-based control program against Taenia solium cysticercosis/taeniasis, schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminthiasis in Sub-Saharan Africa.- You will be involved in a broad range of tasks, including (non-exhaustive list):o project management and coordinationo active participation in and supervision of fieldwork in Zambia, Tanzania, and Mozambiqueo performing and/or supervising laboratory worko (supervising) data collection and data analysiso reporting resultso (supervising) scientific writing of publicationso supervising PhD and Master's students within the project- Desk-based research will take place in Ghent, for data collection you will need to travel to Zambia, Mozambique and Tanzania.- You will strengthen the research group Laboratory for Foodborne Parasitic Zoonoses, support the activities of PhD students working on foodborne parasites (Taenia solium, Taenia saginata, Sarcocystis, and Anisakidae), supervise Master's thesis students, and contribute to the service activities of the laboratory.WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FORRequired:- Master's degree in Veterinary Medicine, Medicine, Biology, Sciences, Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, Sociology, or a closely related field, and a doctoral degree (PhD).- Experience in scientific writing (e.g. publications, protocols), reporting, and data analysis.- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and a team-oriented mindset, both in international and multidisciplinary contexts.- Experience in supervising (PhD) students, giving presentations, and teaching.- Experience in project coordination and management.Assets:- Experience with European projects and fundraising.- Experience with clinical studies (management, documentation, implementation, etc.).- Experience with foodborne parasites.- Broad interest in One Health and international collaboration.- Experience conducting research in the Global South is a strong advantage.- Good knowledge of statistical methods and relevant software packages (e.g. R, Python).We also encourage candidates who do not meet every single requirement but possess relevant experience and strong motivation to apply.WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU- We offer you a contract of indefinite duration, 100% FTE.- Your contract will start on 1/10/2025 at the earliest.- Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate).- All Ghent University staff members enjoy a number of benefits, such as a wide range of training and education opportunities, 36 days of holiday leave (on an annual basis for a full-time job) supplemented by annual fixed bridge days, a bicycle allowance and eco vouchers.INTERESTED?Apply online through the e-recruitment system before the application deadline (see above).
