  • At least 50% of your assignment will be spent on academic research in preparation of a doctoral dissertation
  • You will assist in the teaching activities at the department, specifically the courses related to corporate law, including the bachelor course in Dutch on business law, and courses at master's level on M&A, European company law and corporate governance, and advanced corporate law
  • You will assist in the internal and external services of the department
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
  • You hold a degree of Master in Law. The degree requirement needs to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment. Having obtained an LLM degree in another country than that of your main degree will be considered a positive element in your application.
  • For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted
  • You are interested in academic and/or project-based research and services
  • Any teaching experience or participation in extra training, conferences, etc. is recommended
  • You have excellent teaching and communication skills
  • You have a good knowledge of Belgian law and are capable of teaching “tutorials” to students in Dutch
We are looking for a full time assistant, i.e. Ph.D. (in law) candidate who will also have to perform student support tasks. You must be prepared to write a Ph.D. about corporate law, under the supervision of prof. Hans De Wulf. The topic of your thesis will be determined in consultation with prof. De Wulf. When selecting candidates, we will regard it as positive if the applicant communicates in the application some topics that would be suitable for Ph.D. research, or even includes a brief (approx. one page) research proposal. Succesful candidates will have obtained excellent study results. The successful candidate will not only have to do research on company law, but will also be engaged in student/teaching support, such as offering guidance for bachelor and master theses, teaching in our skills-oriented courses, helping grade bachelor exams, and the like. The assistant that will be hired will become part of the law faculty's Financial Law Institute, in which research and teaching are performed in the broad area of business and economic law, which in addition to company law also includes, among other topics, insolvency law, securities regulation, consumer protection and financial regulation. The assistant will have to develop an interest in this broader area, but will primarily work on cormpany law. Doing research on company law potentially means working on corporate governance, funding of companies, securities regulation, M&A, sustainability, human rights and corporate law, and much more.WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU
  • We offer you a two-year appointment, which may be renewed twice for two years, on condition that the previous term was given a positive evaluation. Attention: If you have been previously appointed as a junior assistant or doctoral fellow at a university within the Flemish Community, this appointment will be deducted from the maximum term of appointment, which is six years at the most according to the Codex of Higher Education
  • Your appointment will start on 1 October 2025 at the earliest
  • Your remuneration will be determined according to salary scale AAP3.
