Offer DescriptionThe Louvain Research Institute for Landscape, Architecture, Built Environment (LAB) at the University of Louvain (UCLouvain) is looking for a motivated and qualified research assistant (0.4 FTE) as part of the interdisciplinary research project “CO-HABIT: Towards an animal-inclusive design in the Brussels Capital Region”. The position is of a duration of 5 months and will be supervised by Prof. Daniela Perrotti (Urban Metabolism) and Prof. Damien Claeys (Systems Theory applied to design) while involving collaboration with the KU Leuven Department of Architecture.The aim of the CO-HABITAT project is to develop a novel set of tools to advance the design of urban public spaces in the Brussels Capital Region based on the nature and characteristics of local wildlife habitats. It bridges urban ecology and design with citizen science and involve a range of policy and industry stakeholders.The work of the researcher will consist of assisting the COHABITAT team with: i) a systematic literature review on the integration of wildlife ecology and human-wildlife interactions into urban planning; ii) organisation and management of primary data on urban wildlife in Brussels collected in previous stages of the project; iii) the formalisation and synthesis of the outcomes of the literature review and urban-wildlife data collection into a peer-reviewed research publication.Additionally, the position can provide a stepping stone to a subsequent PhD project at UCLouvain.
