- You'll join a young team of motivated experts which are passionately working towards the realization of the energy transition.
- You'll collaborate on the build-up of the internal HVDC study expertise in the domains of modelling, studies, and tools.
- You'll enable Elia to further shape its vision on Power Electronics and FACTS by actively following the developments in the field and by using and extending your network with suppliers, universities, and other stakeholders.
- You'll jointly develop Elia's specifications and concepts to integrate and operate new and existing HVDC and FACTS installations.
- You support to further develop the internal knowledge base on HVDC.
- You help creating lecture trainings involving HVDC systems.
- Development and execution of detailed design and engineering studies for HVDC systems.
- Creation of technical specifications and concepts (with support of potential third parties) for
- Control & Protection systems (C&P)
- Multi-terminal DC operation and control concept
- Performance requirements and system reliability

- Follow-up of HVDC system development, from conceptual to basic and detailed design. Here you will draft technical notes to support decisions made during the process.
- Making technical evaluations of proposals and assist during negotiations with suppliers/contractors during tender phase.
- Covering the design review and taking responsibility over the different choices.
- Preparing and participating in the prequalification, type testing, factory acceptance and site acceptance testing.
- Assuring the design choices during the execution. You will make sure that the detailed studies and technical specifications match with the quality and performance criteria of the delivered system.
- Searching for opportunities that will help the project or our organization.
- You have a Master's degree in civil or industrial engineering, specialising in power systems or power electronics.
- You speak and write English fluently in addition to French and/or Dutch.
- You are a smooth, assertive and practical communicator.
- You have a keen eye to detail, strive for a high-quality level and always have safety on your mind.
- Knowledge of the follow topics is considered an added value:
- HVDC and DC protection
- Modelling and performing studies in PSCAD and/or MATLAB
- Programming in any one of the languages used in power systems scripting (C/C++, Python, MATLAB, Fortran, Julia).
- Large- and small-signal stability analysis of power systems
- Operational management and reliability of assets
- Control systems and tuning
- Able to work in a matrix organization.
- Sporadic business trips may occur.
- Interest in doing an industry-oriented PhD is a plus.
